| Junior High Camp at Calvin Crest is an
exciting week filled to the brim with activities. What better way to
spend a week of your summer than meeting new friends, sliding down a
ninety-foot water slide, and learning a little about life? We know
Junior High is a crazy time, and we want to give you the opportunity to
be yourself, have some fun, and ask the tough questions about faith in
Jesus. Our staff will be waiting to hang out and have a good time, so
get together some friends, and come join us!
How is the program geared toward the age group? As we said, Junior High is a crazy time. So let's go crazy! We know you have a lot of energy, so we've planned a fast-paced range of activities. You'll have the freedom to be yourself, away from the pressures of school. We know you might have big questions about this Jesus stuff. We want you to be free to ask those questions, and you deserve the answers! Bottom line: Junior High is a unique time, and keep that in mind when preparing for you to be with us. We want to help define what this time means for you - and we have no intention of making it boring! Who is the Staff? The "Crestview Team" runs Junior High camp. Crestview is made up of eleven staff memebers. The Coordinator's job is to make sure that everything is running smoothly. The Activities Director is your personal host for the week, leading games and other events. The six "Lead Counselors" have the job of taking you and your team on hikes, taking you down the Flume (our ninety-foot water slide), and taking you into some good conversations. The Craft Director will direct ... well, crafts. The Audio Visual crew is going to make sure you see, hear, and remember everything you need to, and the First-Aider is there in case of an injury. Who are the Counselors? The volunteer counselors are perhaps the most important position we have. They give up a week of their summer to spend all their time with the campers. Throughout each day they build relationships with the kids as they lead morning devotions, go on all the hikes, and play all the exciting games. Our program could not happen without the volunteer counselors. In most cases, counselors are parents or volunteers who have come up with a church. But in some cases, Calvin Crest relies on outside volunteers to fill these positions for the week. What happens on a typical day? After a good breakfast we'll head into our morning time together. There could be some music. There could be a short video clip. Whatever it is, there will be something to get us moving for the day. Afterwards you might head into your teams (teams are made up of 3-5 cabin groups), for a little Team Time action. Maybe you'll hike up to the zip-line over Polar Bear Pond. Maybe your whole team will attempt the climbing wall. Sometime during the day we'll head to the Green for some Ultimate Duck-Duck-Goose, or something crazy like that. After lunch we may head into Seminars. Seminars give us an opportunity to focus in on a specific topic that you get to choose. If we're not in Seminars, it's quite possible we're at the Pool Olympics, showing our skills in the water. In the afternoons we'll have plenty of free time for you to hang out with friends, grab some ice cream, play some basketball, do some crafts, or any one of the many activities we have arranged. Later on we'll have dinner together just before another crazy activity, possibly involving a Record Deal and Big Time Hollywood Agents. In the evenings we'll get together at the Amphitheater for a time of worship, and listening to some good words from some good people we've asked to join us. What is the purpose/mission of Junior High Camp? Our motivation at Calvin Crest is to witness to the love of Jesus Christ. We know that His love makes a difference in our lives, and the lives of Junior High students are not excluded from that. Junior High camp is designed to be a safe and exciting place in which a Junior High student can experience this love, and learn what it means to live as a follower of Jesus Christ. |
