All Ages

Speaker time is general to family ministry or personal growth for adults. The children enjoy VBS with activities geared toward their age while the adults are in speaker time. My children look forward to having a chance to go to crafts, the boats, the pool or on hikes with their CCA's and staff. Family camp as a whole is a total family experience where any age can enjoy activities such as sing time, the flume, boats, climbing wall, ropes course, the pool and giant swing. When my children were very young, I simply enjoyed watching them chase butterflies. I have attended Calvin Crest almost every summer since 1969 and have enjoyed every stage of my life and my children's lives at camp.

Who is the staff?
Young adults that sacrifice their summer for low pay, and many work hours to minister to the campers because they have a heart for Jesus and a soul for ministry. Lead Counselors provide care and support all age groups, and many activities are organized by Calvin Crest's leadership.

What are Child Care Assistants?
CCA's are selfless teenagers that give up a week of their summer to play with my children. They, not only spend VBS time with the kids in the morning, but they also tuck the kids in at night. This isn't all, my children love these individuals so much, that the would rather, eat, play and spend free time with the CCA's during their week at camp.

What is the mission/purpose of the program?
Personally, I would describe the purpose of family camp as a mission to bring the family together with God as their focus. A time to revive the spirit of the Lord in the family to meet the rest of the year and all that it brings. It is also a chance to rest and enjoy the members of your family without the complications of the world.

What happens on a typical day?
Breakfast, followed by family sing, then speaker time for adults while children enjoy VBS. We all meet again for lunch which leads into free time. During free time, families can go off campus to enjoy the beauty of Yosemite or the area just surrounding Calvin Crest. Free time has plenty of activities to keep you and your family enjoyably occupied. My daughter spends much of her time at the climbing wall, while my son loves to simply climb the trees that God has provided. Free time is followed by dinner which leads into a night activity that changes depending on the day of the week. Finally, off to bed to recoup for another big day of fun.

This testimony of camp does not account for the joy that you see in your child's face when you return to Calvin Crest. There isn't a picture that can capture this so completely. Also, I could not convey in words how my life at Calvin Crest has been shaped by my time spent there. My life decisions have been made based upon the time, lessons, friends and journeys that have happened at Calvin Crest.
