Many of you have been asking how the camp is doing amidst the craziness known as the coronavirus. Like many of you, we are leaning into God and one another during this uncertain time.
With Governor Newsom’s decree last night to Shelter in Place for the foreseeable future, we are now trying to care for our staff who call camp home. While most of the staff have been furloughed and returned to their parent’s homes, ten adults and 4 children will be sheltering in place at Calvin Crest for the duration. In exchange for their housing and utilities, they are working by plowing and shoveling snow, chopping and splitting wood, cleaning, monitoring phones, and returning emails. We are grateful to have a beautiful place in which to shelter in place.
Meanwhile, as more and more schools and guest groups cancel, the leadership and board are doing everything we can to reduce and eliminate all unnecessary expenses, free up restricted funds, and steward our limited reserves in order to weather this pandemic. Calvin Crest is certainly not in a position to weather this without help, so you will be seeing more information soon on how you can partner to support Calvin Crest to help us survive this season.
We are praying for all of you to stay safe and healthy, to lean into God and family, and to find the hidden unexpected gifts that come with this season. Personally, I have been meditating on Psalm 91: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” May we all find refuge in Him whom we put our trust.
